Humanity has long yearned to live longer and healthier lives. And in the mid-2020s, artificial intelligence (AI) is providing the most powerful fuel for that desire.

Discovering drug candidate substances rapidly, capturing cancer cells before medical staff do, and analyzing individual genomes to propose personalized treatments—are these AI technologies actually extending human life?

Before giving a definitive answer to that question, this article establishes one fact first. As of April 2026, there is no causal research showing that the adoption of AI has had a statistically significant upward effect on national-level life expectancy indicators such as those from Statistics Korea or OECD statistics.

However, evidence is rapidly accumulating that AI diagnostic and predictive models reduce mortality and improve treatment outcomes in specific diseases and clinical environments.

We also clarify in advance that many of the AI cases introduced in this in-depth analysis remain at the stage of clinical trials, pilot studies, and corporate projects, and it will take considerable time for their effects to be reflected in the life expectancy statistics of the entire population.
