Do Pressure Interviews Really Filter Out Top Talent? Research on the Conditions for a 'Good Interview'

Anxiety felt during interviews showed a negative relationship with interview evaluation scores, but its relationship with job performance after hiring was very weak. Pressure interviews risk filtering out candidates who are strong in the specific evaluation context of an interview rather than those who face actual work stress. A 2022 meta-analysis showed that the average validity of structured interviews was 0.42, compared to 0.19 for unstructured interviews. Job seeker surveys revealed that excessive pressure and rude interview experiences can negatively impact corporate image and the intention to join a company. The core of an effective interview lies in maintaining an atmosphere of respect for candidates while strictly applying job-based questions and identical evaluation criteria.
